(01/03/2004) Agfa wins E 1.27 million contract for PACS/RIS integration at A.Z. Sint-Jan, Bruges, Belgium
Agfa chosen for its reputation as stable partner with proven project management competence
Mortsel / Belgium, March 1, 2004
Agfa has won a E 1.27 million contract with A.Z. Sint-Jan, Bruges, Belgium, to implement IMPAX(tm) PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System) and to connect it to the existing RIS (Radiology Information System) and the central medical record system.
The contract includes implementation of a comprehensive IMPAX solution and the seamless integration of Agfa's IMPAX with the existing RIS through nine IMPAX DS3000(tm) diagnostic workstations in a three-monitor set-up to enable, integration at desktop level. Through the installation of a fully-redundant IMPAX WEB1000(tm) solution and its integration with the existing central medical record, A.Z. Sint-Jan is taking a major step in the direction of a full-blown EPR.
A.Z. Sint-Jan has been an Agfa customer for many years. Dr. Hans Rigauts, Medical Director and Chief Radiologist of A.Z. Sint-Jan, says, 'Agfa has proved that it has strong project management capabilities to implement a stable PACS solution and integrate it into existing systems from other vendors. Combined with its proven customer-oriented servicing organization, this was a decisive argument for deciding this contract in favor of Agfa.'
The A.Z. Sint-Jan contract also features the installation of an ADC(tm) Solo digitizer and an IMPAX DS3000 workstation at the SFX (Sint-Franciscus Xaverius) site of the hospital, both connected to the main site's RIS/PACS via a VPN (Virtual Private Network). This allows clinicians at SFX to fully benefit from IMPAX functionality just as if they were at the main site itself.
To support its reference function as a teaching hospital for radiologists, A.Z. Sint-Jan also commissioned Agfa's IMPAX Teaching Files, including a projection system for teaching and consultation purposes. Teaching Files enable the construction of anonymized study collections and educational materials concurrently with daily operations.
The 909-bed public hospital A.Z. Sint-Jan was first established back in 1150, over 850 years ago. The current 16-floor building, which has been built outside the medieval city center of Bruges for technical and esthetic reasons, opened its doors in 1977. The hospital also has a branch in the center of Bruges called Sint-Franciscus Xaverius (SFX), and has collaboration agreements with three hospitals in the wider Bruges region as well as with the Bruges penitentiary complex. A.Z. Sint-Jan has a solid reputation as a teaching center for radiologists connected with the University of Leuven (KUL) and the University of Ghent Several of its radiologists are internationally renowned experts.
